I have question about a recent job I applied for early this month (October 4th) the following day I did get a reply the next morning but only because my resume didn't download. I replied with an apology a few hours later and another attachment. I didn't hear back and wasn't sure what to do.On October 14th I got an email saying that they still had some part time positions available and if I was still looking for employment to which I answered yes (that I was available and still interested). I asked if I could call (I don't have a phone number I emailed her because a counselor at our local career center gave me her email address) and asked for a number and offered to come in to discuss details or interview.
I ended by saying that I looked forward to meeting with her and thanked her.I haven't gotten a reply since. I really need a job and this one is in my hometown, so it is nearby my home. How do I proceed? Should I look up the business phone number, call the career center or follow up with another email? What would I say in an email? I'm not sure what to do and I would love to snag an interview if at all.
I did some looking on the company website and the person I was communicating with is a VP for the credit union. Maybe she is busy?
Just yesterday I was wondering whether I should call and chickened out. I wrote one more email instead, I said something like "I wanted to follow up on my previous email reply. I am interested in a part time position and I was wondering if I may call sometime during the day? Thank you for your consideration...."
Should I call instead? What should I say? They are closed by 4:30 pm and it's almost November I want to get an interview and hired before any spots fill up.
Do you have any advice?
Thank you,PeachyKeen19

Hi PeachyKeen19!
I am reading "What Does Somebody Have To Do To Get A Job Around Here? 44 Insider Secrets That Will Get You Hired" by Cynthia Shapiro.
According to Secret #22, no you should NOT call!!!
The author literally says "Don't call to follow-up-ever!" She continues on to say "You need to wait for them to come to you, even though it's tough. The hard truth is that if they want you, they will call you."
I'm waiting to hear from two potential employers after my interviews and I'm just dying to call....but I'm going to take Ms. Shapiro's advice and see what happens.
1Thank you, does that count even if I haven't been interviewed? She did ask me if I was interested in a part time position and I wrote back to say yes and haven't gotten a reply since. So I should continue waiting?
It's just that I'm under pressure from my parents to take another job that I don't really want and I prefer this one.
Thanks again.
2HI Peachy!
3I think my answer stays the same. Calling/emailing again will look desperate and you never want that. Remember, you haven't interviewed for the position, the job description may sounds fantastic, but you really can't know if you want the job until you have vetted the company during the interview. Their lack of response to you this early in the game could be a huge red flag for what working with them is really like. Why not continue looking at the other opportunity that is on the table while also keeping yourself open and looking for additional options?
Best of luck!

Thank you, you're right I got the call!
