I don't know if it's really considered an old contact or not but I used to know someone that worked in the entertainment industry, music to be specific. I acted as an A&R rep or music manager and if I found a song or artist I would share it with them. They told me if ever one of my artists or groups had new music to let them know (or myself). The artists I know have either stopped making music or didn't have anything to share, eventually I dropped contact with this person after our/my last paying job because I had nothing new.
One of my bands recently recorded new songs and seems to be newly enthusiastic about making a music career really work. I promised I would email my contact and pass along this new music. This contact of mine did say if ever I had anything new to let him know but I feel awkward because I think he is going to ask what have I been doing ( just in conversation, he had suggested I study business or music myself because it seemed to interest me or that I had an aptitude for it) and I've only been working little local jobs and didn't finish college.
I think he is cool and very awesome because we are not famous or anything and he still seemed to respect us and give us chances (we did miss two job offers once because we were late in replying) I want to do this for my band and give it another go. The last time we spoke was when he tried to reach me to send me our earnings from a music related job in late 2007 or early 2008. Should I email him? Or send a letter and the CD? Do both? ( I was thinking just send the tape and a letter and then an email saying I had done so but that is starting to sound lame) And even then, WHAT do I say?
Maybe I'm making this into too mcuh of a big deal and all I have to say is "Hi, do you remember us? We have something new."
Or do I have to prove that I'm successful and professional (aside from being nice and friendly I do want to sound professional, serious, and courteous).
Please let me know what to do I want to get this done before the holidays are over and find out any feedback.
